Hi Bradley, Sometimes this is actually the BIOS or monitor performing the dimming/standby. Could you post the output of:
cat /var/lib/acpi-support/*-* so that we can identify your machine type. Does the screen (a) dim, (b) blank, (c) back-light turn off, or (d) standby [if an external monitor]. If an external monitor goes into standby, normally the power LED would change colour and the monitor make a slight noise whilst the electrical relay clicks. If the screen is just dimmed, the screen would still be quite visible, except in direct-sunlight. If the backlight of an LCD is being switch off (but the screen left on), it will be possible to see some output of the screen display if you look carefully. ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info -- my screen will 'black out' if left unattended even though that option is disabled https://launchpad.net/bugs/50076 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
