I cannot even boot a live CD on edgy or fiesty. In other words, I

I've just tried and failed to reproduce this on my machine. I'm quite
confused as to what's happened here, all I can think of is that maybe a
reboot sorted the problem. What happened is that I re-installed my computer
last week (following an unrelated hard-disk failure), and at the time
I use Ubuntu 7.04 Herd 4. I do not use a composite manager. I use GNOME-
Metacity.

Why do you think it's not a Python bug? Running firefox or gnome-mount
manually works just fine, but it breaks when using the webbrowser
module. It seems it does some double-quoting, weird interpolation, or
shell

Yes, Feisty's firefox is still a very slow starter. Here are some
timings of warm and cold starts respectively ("firefox" is
2.0.0.1+1-0ubuntu1, "nfox" is the official 2.0.0.1 from mozilla.org):

Best thing is to file them and let the developers decide; the only real
way to tell us by reading the stack trace and having some knowledge of
