The combination or resolution+frequency is outside of the capabilities
reported by the monitor.
To use the resolution 1600x1200, it will be necessary to select a lower
refresh-frequency so that the combination is within the range reported
by the monitor.

Confirm on a Thinkpad T43p.
Booting with the noacpi option still has this problem.
A workaround (to avoid going insane...) is to open the Power Mgmt
preferences from gnome-control-center, and under your current setup (ie
AC power), slide the brightness slider all the way up to 100%, then
lower it

I'm attaching all 750+ files that were used to simulate the crash. I
uploaded all these files to the FTP server and then selected them all
and tried to delete them. After deleting about 150+ files gftp hangs and
crashes.
See if these files help you in trying to debug the problem.

OK I've tried to do a backtrace without much luck. As expected gftp
crashed after deleting about 150 odd files but here is the output once I
