I can only update with the terminal now and for me it isn't fixed. I run feisty
and the problem came with the dist-upgrade / new control center.
That is the same time the music in my notebook stops! I have no sound at all

Afaik, backporting means to take a package from the developing version
and to build it on a stable version, so, building a .deb from scratch
and put it to Edgy would not work (Edgy is frozen).

configuration.
Gnome-control-center did not just add itself to the menu. If it did that, I
wouldn't care.

Another note, I got a popup error before ubiquity crashed -
(dialog title) Failed to partition the selected disk
(in dialog) This probably happened because the selected disk or free space is
too small to be automatically partitioned.
After clicking OK it waits for a little while then crashes.

Just ran gparted from a terminal and deleted my ntfs partition (and
replaced it with an ext3 partition and a swap partition.) I ran the
installer again, and it worked. So the disk being ntfs is a problem.

Yes, I found that in the Community Forums and it did

However, you are wrong in your assertion that Ubuntu
allows you to compile hello.c with nothing more than
installing a few packages. There is nothing in the
standard packages that includes build-essential. Try
it: Do a fresh installation
I'm running Feisty and kernel 2.6.20-5-generic. I have the exact same
problem. /dev/scd0 is listed under the group Floppy and /dev/sg0 and sg1
are in group root. NeroLinux complains that it needs free access to sg0
and sg1 so therefore can not function. Also, I can not write to UDF
discs ...access
after upgrade upgrade-manager doesn't crash.

Using Ubuntu Edgy on three different hardware configurations that I
have access to here (Dell Optiplex 170L, 210L desktops & Dell Inspiron
1300 laptops), the configuration file doesn't seem to be affecting
Samba's behavior.
A couple of examples: name resolution is not checki
Unfortunately it does not help. It is still so slow.
Sebastian: I thought it was enabled by default because of the spec
composite-by-default. Sorry.
Upstream answered for a small period but now seems not interested
anymore: they are sure that the poor performance is caused by the lack
of RENDER ACC

I installed edgy on a logical partition (hda7) on an old PIII with one single
80 GB Harddisk
a few days ago.
On the same partition I had some other Ubuntu or Debian before Dapper without
any problems.
(I use two alternately to install)

Sorry... It said to include more details if it was a new report, but
by then I could see that the problem had been reported several times
already.
Also, it would be a heck of lot easier to include the displayed debug
info if you could copy/paste the trace/debug info in the usual way.

I was clearly not thinking clearly when I posted my previous comment.
The actual culprit seems to be the CYRUS_BERKELEY_DB_CHK_LIB autoconf
helper in cyrus-imapd-2.2*/cmulocal/berkdb.m4, which explicitly looks
for versioned shared libraries (-ldb-4.4, -ldb4.4, -ldb44, -ldb-4.3,
etc, in that order)

This happens because of a change in Gnome : Gnome now uses a "Gnome
Control Center". A link to it should appear in your System menu.
Please reboot and see if it does appear.
If it does run "mv ~/.config/menus/system.menu
~/.config/menus/system.menu.undo-1" in a Terminal.
