I am having the same problem in Feisty although I have not tested it

no. The i386iso fails on pentium D, P4 and Opteron.
The Amd64 iso installs succesfully on the Opteron.
Also, The i386 cdrom check passes and the i386iso md5 checksum passes .

The upstream of version 2.10.7-0ubuntu2 fixed the problem running
mousepad as a normal user. Mousepad now runs properly as a normal user,
however the bug with gedit/mousepad when clicking "open file" still
remains unfixed.

If by xine-ui you mean xine movie player,then I tried to get the crash with
xine movie player but it doesn't crash.
Also,I have attached the backtrace in the bug-buddy dialog after the crash with
libxine1-dbg inst
Yeah works for me, I did a update, then a dist-upgrade, then a apt-get
install gnome-panel and everything is working again.

I got this bug again using an installation of Kubuntu Feisty Herd-2 with

OK, I've worked around this in console-setup; I have an idea as to how
to implement setup-console-under-usplash while still avoiding this
problem. I do think it's a kernel bug that you can't reliably set the
font on another virtual console, though - and it's particularly
irritating that vgacon does
It appears that debian decided to write their own version of install-
info that is in the dpkg package, and this version is broken. Please
consider throwing it out and replacing it with the install-info utility
provided in the texinfo package, and actually works correctly.

earlier, it might have saved your data (which hopefully was not lost),
but we get so many bugs that it's not always possible. Thanks again!
