I have a machine that reproduces this bug now. According to strace, X
isn't even waking up when the corruption occurs, so I doubt it's an X
bug. It looks to me as if the kernel is overwriting video memory by
mistake. The fbcon and vesafb modules are loaded, and X is using the
vesa driver.

With 2.6.20-4.6 in feisty, switching to a virtual console just results
in a black screen. However, an upstream 2.6.20-rc5 kernel (defconfig
with a few tweaks) displays the console normally. I speculate that one
of fbcon or vesafb can't handle the iMac's console properly?

For Feisty, as the fix was released upstream, it should be released in
Ubuntu in a few times. Sebastian, is this still happen in Feisty now ?
For edgy, we need the maintainer intervention. I mark it "In progress"
before you confirm it is resolved in Feisty, and until the patch
backporting for Edgy.
Sorry, please ignore the Edgy part since I don't understand it occurs
only in Feisty. I will wait your confirmation to mark it as "fix
released".

The battery lifetime isn't funct

I just tried your patch, but the kernel did not compile.
I did the following steps under /usr/src:
sudo apt-get install linux-source-2.6.15
sudo wget http://shove-it.de/open/jcm/vserver_linux-source-2.6.15-27.50.patch
sudo tar -xjvf linux-source-2.6.15.tar.bz2
cd linux-source-2.6.15
sudo patc
I did not have this issue on resume, but I did have it on starting totem
on a .ogg file. All kinds of weird colored lines on the screen but you
can still see x trying to restart.
The driver on http://www.fairlite.demon.co.uk/intel.html fixed it.

I can confirm this behaviour on my laptop (Asus V6J) running Edgy Eft
with latest updates.
Best way to unlock the pointer I've found so far is to find the place it
got stuck and click right mouse button there.

the focus mode is click then, thank you. The control panel might be
masked and your video driver has video refresh problems. What videocard
and videodriver do you use? Do you have that problem if you use x11
rather than xv (you can change that with "video.driver:x11" to
.gnome2/totem_config by exam
Do you have that problem if you copy the file to an another directory?
Could you attach an example of file triggering that problem to the bug?
What version of Ubuntu do you use? Are you sure that's not only the
directory which is reordered? Do you have the correct rights to read in
that directory?

I can confirm this bug on Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.
Before installing mine configuration was this:
hda: primary device. Windows is installed here, with Windows bootloader in the
MBR
hdb: secondary device. Empty.
I wanted to install Kubuntu on hdb and grub in the MBR of hdb,
maintaining Windows boot

Hi! I've just updated unbuntu from Dapper Drake. So, on my laptop and on
some computers of my friends this error occured. The contact list cannot
display contacts with russian symbols correctly. I think it's a problem
with encoding. Conversations work properly (russian symbols
hmm, crash dump seems to have some similarities with crash dump in bug
#71501. I'm afraid that this doesn't contain enough information to solve
this problem.
Could you try to obtain debug traces if you can reproduce this.

Same problem here.
Why is status only Medium? It seems pretty serious that the software
update tool does not work. Perhaps Medium is the default and somebody
