With 2.6.20-4.6 in feisty, switching to a virtual console just results in a black screen. However, an upstream 2.6.20-rc5 kernel (defconfig with a few tweaks) displays the console normally. I speculate that one of fbcon or vesafb can't handle the iMac's console properly?
