Another note:
When I install Dapper into the RAID1 configuration from scratch, it
works (as noted above). If I then upgrade from Dapper to Edgy via the
Upgrade Manager, the system continues to work -- that is, grub boots the
system fine with /boot on RAID1 device and menu.lst references /dev/md1

I've moved on to edgy, but a friend still has dapper on another machine.
He was able to reproduce the bug. When I had him run it in gdb and
"thread apply all bt" after the crash, there were no symbols.
He rebuild the package with debugging symbols but then was unable to
reproduce the bug. :-)

what arch are you trying to use ghci on? (I'd guess it's neither i386
nor amd64). If so, it's intended that there is no more ghci, due to

When I boot from the Edgy desktop CD, the volume is shown to be muted
but when I listen to music I can hear it at full volume. Modifying the
channel in ALSA does not have any effect regarding the volume.
I can select two devices in gnome-volume-control; A SIS one and a CMEDIA

I install old 2.6.12 Breezy kernel and the bug is not present on this
kernel. Reassuming the bug is on 2.6.17 Edgy kernel, 2.6.15 Dapper
kernel, but not on 2.6.12 Breezy kernel, so some patch introduced
between Breezy and Dapper release cause this bug. Tomorrow I'll try to
