I see this too (edgy) and it's infuriating. Another way to trigger it is
to switch between virtual desktops when another window is present on the
desktop you're switching *from*, that occupies the same space as
rdesktop on the desktop you're switching to.

However I suspect the problem is deeper than rdesktop: A couple of times
now I've seen it happen with gaim too. I wonder if it's a metacity, x
server or video driver issue that rdesktop just exacerbates more than
other programs.
