The bug seems to not apply in edgy because the time-admin GUI has

python-osd doesn't set up symlinks to modules on insta
Initramfs scripts cannot mount my root on lvm volume since conversion to
UUID.
I think that the /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm script

Some more information:
I have now deleted the via-agp.ko module; agp is now of course disabled.
Gnome now still freezes after about 1 minute, but differently: applets
are still working (showing activity) , I can move the mouse, but I
cannot right or left click -> there are no actions to my mouse
