Some more information: I have now deleted the via-agp.ko module; agp is now of course disabled.
Gnome now still freezes after about 1 minute, but differently: applets are still working (showing activity) , I can move the mouse, but I cannot right or left click -> there are no actions to my mouse clicks (no action when clicking on menus, no right click menu, no desktop select area, no wheel scroll, etc...). Keyboard still works ( I can ctrl-alt-f2 to get to the shell and come back to ctrl-alt-f7). So I then kill X with ctrl-alt-del, login again, and after about 1 minute the same happens again. As I said previously, the same happens with via-agp loaded, but then when I ctrl-alt-del to kill the server I get a kernel panic/complete system freeze); so this is not the case when via-agp is not loaded. I'm once again back to the perfectly working kernel 2.6.15... -- system freeze/kernel panic with kernel 2.6.17 (probably due to via-agp) https://launchpad.net/bugs/53772 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
