ajhcasual, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

Exact steps to reproduce:
1. fresh install ubuntu, xubuntu or lubuntu 11.10
-press ctrl-alt-F1 at any point in the installation, and observe that the
prompt is visible on-screen with tty1.
2. accept all defaults. Don't install updates while installing. Don't connect
the internet.
3. reboot when
It gets a bit more complicated: My tty1 on this laptop is now working.
I can only reproduce this bug on the first boot after install. However,
this happens on first boot with lubuntu and xubuntu, so it is still
consistent, if only in that instance. But if it never happens again on
the machine, I

I had been running ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop, and I wanted to get a more
recent version. Due to limited RAM, I selected Xubuntu 11.10 rather
then the mainstream Ubuntu distro.
After a successful install, I boot
