Exact steps to reproduce: 1. fresh install ubuntu, xubuntu or lubuntu 11.10 -press ctrl-alt-F1 at any point in the installation, and observe that the prompt is visible on-screen with tty1. 2. accept all defaults. Don't install updates while installing. Don't connect the internet. 3. reboot when prompted. 4. Log-in. 5. Press ctrl-alt-F1, observe total blackness on the screen.
-Closing the laptop lid, locking the screen, logging-out and logging back in, suspending+resuming each do not affect the bug. -Hibernating, or shutting down will eliminate the bug and tty1 will function after powering back on. -apport-collect was run on the 2nd boot, after which I discovered tty1 was back. I hope that doesnt obscure the report information. I feel that this is a trivial bug now. But I was startled that tty1 worked on 2nd boot, making me think I did something wrong. I am glad that I can reproduce it (have done so 3x), and that I am not hallucinating! ** Summary changed: - ubuntu 11.10: tty1 is a black screen + ubuntu 11.10: tty1 is a black screen on first boot -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986001 Title: ubuntu 11.10: tty1 is a black screen on first boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/986001/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
