Mine is a VT3118 Chipset with PM800/PM880. It is an Esys notebook
Right now it uses the Vesa driver But i wanted to get the 2D abilities of my
hardware

I own an Acer Aspire 1362LM vith VIA K8n800...
With 2d, and "via" xorg.driver in Ubuntu Feisty (and "DisableIRQ" "true"
in xorg.conf") all works well.
But with 3d applications, the screen become black and the system freeze.
Only hardware reset is possible

I wrote , the unichrome- driver was NOT functional with my hardware. You
can check that by looking at the attached Xorg log file in my second
comment.
Anyway, it's just a bit weird situation, because on http://unichrome.sf.net the
VT3118 is mentioned as a supported chipset, whilst the driver you
The stock via-driver is practically unmaintained upstream, unlike the
unichrome-driver which supports more devices too. The package I provided
should conflict with via (and, currently xserver-xorg-input-all), so it
won't install without some manual labor.

My problem got solved in a misterious way.
After doing make uninstall, and reinstalling the "stock" VIA driver, it
just works. I'm very curious about the nature of this problem, because I
didn't ever mess with the VIA driver before.

I tried the new version, you suggested.
First of all, I would like to notice, that the driver you provided seems
to be not a newer version of the driver included in feisty, but a fork
or a paralel project.
Unfortunately, the driver you suggested does not support my video card
in the
