Gasc, which version are you using? I think I fixed this bug in
xevil-2.02r2-7, which just went into debian unstable a few days ago.
Also, which architecture? A few people using AMD64 have been affected.
As far as I know, i386 doesn't seem to crash in this way.

I can confirm this. I also experience the same error trying to run the
latest debian package of xevil (although it happens faster because the
license screen has been partially removed). I'll email the developer.
