"Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 alpha?" I am almost positive that it is not. I specifically fixed this bug in 2.02r2-7, and there have been 0 reports that that version, or the latest, are still affected by this bug. Every Ubuntu version since Gutsy has this bug fixed. I suggest that this bug, #87422, and #137825 be closed.
