It's been 5 days since i reported this and it has not happenned again.
Perhaps i should consider it fixed by virtue of other updates installed.
Don't know how to close/cancel a bug report.

Incidentally, I applied an update to compiz about 24 hours ago (which i
understand has something to do with the 3d look to the desktop),
yesterday (2/8/2012) the problem not only did not happen once all day
(that is: it always prompted me for a password on resume from sleep),
but one or two other t
I looked at the list of packages it "could" be under, and pm-utils made
the most sense of those packages that were listed. This is really an
x11 tool issue, and specifically the tool which is supposed to prompt
for password on resume from sleep/suspend. At least that is my
presumption.
