I can confirm that this but is still reproducible in 8.10 final
After some time the sound stops working, and any application that tries
to make some sound freezes, including flash plugin on firefox,
rhythmbox, mplayer, vlc, and others.

I have noticed this whenever I try to watch a movie (VLC, MPlayer, Xine,
etc.) it used to affect every time I listened to an MP3, but now it just
