Thanks for reporting back!
There is another report mentioning tilda explicitly (bug 381787).
I am not sure, if this bug here is about tilda only (and you are not the
original reporter), so I will just leave it open as Incomplete and it
will auto-expire after a while without any response.

Is this still an issue in Ubuntu Precise?
If so, please provide a step-by-step test case for reproducing it.
I could not trigger it by installing and starting tilda, nor have I
found a terminal plugin in gedit.

in guake setting "run command as login shell" seems to work around the

Hey,
what about this? On lucid lynx gedit doesn't crash, but starts to massively use
CPU.
The Embedded Terminal part of the bottom pane show's no prompt.
I changed my login shell using chsh.
For now I did as Nowaker suggested and altered the terminal.py to directly
issue the
command bin/bash. H
I experienced this bug as well when I tried to open a new tab on guake
(roll-down terminal emulator), which I have set to use the Korn shell
(ksh).

Andrew,
Ok, I didn't use gedit or anything like that. Rather, just used
vi and edited the file. From the man page, I got that the bash reads the
files in this order:
When bash is invoked as an interactive login shell, or as a non-interactive
shell with the --login option, it first read
I also had this immediately following the crash of Tilda in bug 194276.

oberoc,
Can you give some background on that workaround? As far as I know, .bashrc is
only used when bash is executed, which isn't the case for me, so is this
supposed to help because Gedit is invoking bash, because zsh uses .bashrc for
something, or what? :)

Here is a little workaround until the nice people in the open source community
fix the bug:
In your /your/home/directory/.bashrc:
At the top insert this:
if [ -x /usr/bin/zsh ]; then
exec /usr/bin/zsh

Binary package hint: zsh
This is a strange bug, as it cropped up when I opened a file in Gedit.
Not too strange, however, as I had the Embedded Terminal plugin enabled
