I cannot reproduce this bug anymore. There is however not much which
changed. I reinstalled the 2.0.0.1 and started firefox a few days later,
when I discovered that it suddenly works. Here is an excerpt from my
dpkg.log for the relevant timeframe:

Sorry, I didn't compile firefox 2.0.0.1 from source, but instead
installed the binary package from mozilla.org
I will compile the ubuntu package from source and will try to generate a
better backtrace for you guys.

This is a showstopper for me, as I have to use firefox for some webpages
