I have an up to date install, I don't even have an indicator-battery
package available, though I have the gnome power manager. When running
via command line, I see similar output as some of the posters above
(some gibberish about not finding a file). Interestingly enough,
Battery-status works just
I also have an up to date install, and no battery indicator in unity 2D.
indicator-battery is installed.

I have the following installed and am update to date with a dist-
upgrade. I still do not see a power indicator icon when running Unity
or Unity 2D.

>From a terminal, I just performed a sudo apt-get update and then a sudo
apt-get upgrade. There were quite a few updates available. After the
upgrade completed, I performed a sudo apt-get shutdown -r now from a
terminal window. Once I logged back in, I now have a functioning battery
indicator.

Oops! I was trying to install indicator-applet instead of indicator-
power. Now I've installed the correct one, I get the same as haddog in
post #19 - the indicator is permanently red. I also have kernel 3.0.0

I have all packages up-to-date. I have a battery indicator but it does
not update. It is red and not filled in as if my battery is completely
discharged. This occurred when I upgraded the linux kernel to
3.0.0-7-generic using apt-get. My Dell Mini 10 v has been plugged in

I have indicator-power installed now and still have no battery
indicator.
This is clearly a conspiracy to cover up the fact that oneiric consumes
10% more power at idle than natty did! :-)

Whoops. I was about to say that this indicates (hah) a problem with the
seed dependencies and that something needs to make sure this gets pulled
in by default; but I see now that unity does recommend it, so it will be
pulled in by default for cl
