I have the following installed and am update to date with a dist-
upgrade. I still do not see a power indicator icon when running Unity
or Unity 2D.

gir1.2-upowerglib-1.0 0.9.12-1
gnome-power-manager 3.1.3-0ubuntu2
indicator-power 0.5-0ubuntu1
libupower-glib1 0.9.12-1
pm-utils 1.4.1-8ubuntu1
powermgmt-base 1.31
python-dateutil 1.4.1-4
upower 0.9.12-1

I am running a custom built 3.0.0-git17 kernel, because I need GMA500 staging
driver to get a framebuffer for my GMA500 video card:
gma500 0000:00:02.0: irq 40 for MSI/MSI-X
gma500 0000:00:02.0: setting latency timer to 64
gma500 0000:00:02.0: allocated 1366x768 fb
[drm] Initialized gma500 1.0.0 2011-06-06 for 0000:00:02.0 on minor 0

I don't know if these segfaults from my dmesg output are related:

unity-panel-ser[3215]: segfault at aaaaaac2 ip b6473dab sp bf8cbde0 error 4 in
libdbusmenu-glib.so.4.0.0[b6465000+18000]
unity-panel-ser[4947]: segfault at bf288ffc ip b715bbbd sp bf289000 error 6 in
libgobject-2.0.so.0.2914.0[b7128000+4f000]
