thx for the answer.
I intended a full installation but the upgrade window only offered an
update, a reinstallation of 10.04 and an installation beneath 10.04, so
i thought it was the usual way to go. But i will take another look and
install it from scratch.

As an advice, I am ubuntu user since 4.10, and I always suggest a full
ubuntu installation from scratch.
Upgrades between releases are not as good as expected. This issue has
been improved, however, it is in constant evolution.
It is better to backup the system every six months and then install t
rebooted of course;p
