That's what I meant, the integrated menu - I thought it had a menu for setting which version of GTK you wanted, and to associate editors with a GUI, but I couldn't find those. I'm guessing that the progress bar is the initialization one that you get when you load something with Glade, but it's fail

Yes, this progress bar is totally wrong. Basically Ubuntu is shipping an incompatible version of glade with anjuta as anjuta 2.x has never been tested with glade 3.8.x but instead we concentrated on anjuta 3.0 + glade 3.10. For Anjuta 3.0 you need parts of the GNOME 3.0 stack but you don't need a

It's probably the extra progress-bar inside of the GUI builder window - if that window isn't open then Anjuta behaves normally. I also noticed that the Glade menus didn't seem to be there with the editor up, so I'm wondering if this is an initialization problem of some sort. Do I need to have all

This can happen sometimes if the minimal size of the widgets inside the anjuta window is bigger that the minimal horizontal/vertical size. As most of the widgets have a vertical scrollbar it usually happens in horizontal direction. This confuses the window manager to act in weird ways. However, I
