Bug isn't present in 12.10. It seems to have installed properly. Now
to customize. Unity sucks, and integrated evolution is gonna go bye
bye, along with that stupid indicator for volume mixed with the media
player. Lots of phun to be had. I actually enjoy it. :D I'm happy.

So, having abandoned Ubuntu for nearly a year now, living in a purely
Debian world...I'll check to see if the bug has been fixed after these
couple years in 12.12

Is there anyone I can talk to to get this bug worked out. I just read today
about a guy using 12.04 who has the same problem.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/135356/no-back-light-on-my-acer-aspire-5734z
I've been waiting all year for the chance to upgrade to 11.04, and now we're at

You're not going to believe this, but I got the kernel that gives me
backlight from Maverick... I'm Natty now, and I don't have the source
for the older kernel, or lack that ability to make VirtualBox happy by
installing it... I remoted into my computer, and noticed that
virtualbox works fine wit
Yeah, that one was a no go...doesn't seem to make a difference on the
kernel I am loading on, though I'm now removing that ppa and making sure
I put everything back. LOL I just tested to see if there was any
change to the backlight with the keys, and no there isn't...bug 518002
was ineffective...
I'm trying with bug 518002. If I still lose backlight alltogether, I
can always remote into my own machine from my ipod touch...which is a
strange way to use the laptopbut I get usability. LOL

I appreciate the try with the kernel, but I don't do 386... I'll try
looking at that bug for more information. My brightness control seems
to put an indicator on my screen, but it doesn't function

Look at bug 518002 for a workaround. And please also test whether it is
(half) fixed with the newest kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ .
There are two issues here:
the brightness controls do not actually work
the initial brightness with some kerenels is zer
