1. Where better to put them? (Consider also the "equaliser" item in the
audio menu.)
2. The best that I think can reasonably be done is to alter the
"configure" items to read "configure plugins".
Design flaw or not, I'm not convinced that there's any more that can be
done.
As for the experience
And yes, the experience level required is completely inappropriate. I
didn't realise that "30" meant "master of the known universe". Why
should only a tiny elite be privileged to escape from endless eye candy?
It's just like living under capitalism.

Ah. I see now.
The problem for me then has been that I failed to find the relevant
"configure" menu. The reasons for this were:
1. There are two "settings" menu items in a very prominent position (the
top of their respective drop-down menus). They are much more prominent
than the "configure" subm
No, gui.post_plugins.audio_visualisation is definitely there and
accessible in 0.5.1 and 0.5.7. Adjust the gui.experience_level pref and
you'll see it...
It should probably be made more visible - changing the value from 30 to
20 or possibly 10 (feedback wanted) where it's registered (in src/ui.c)
