Marco, if you would have read all the comments, you would have noticed that
there are several problems and all appear to be solved, especially the initial
problem (by installing boinc-client).
So I'm marking it as invalid (especially since boinc-manager recommends
boinc-client, at least in Hardy
Do you have the same problem with the current Gutsy version (5.10.8-1) ?

but until now no solution. I get the impression that project-grafics that work
with windows not necessarily work with linux.

I face the same situation. UBUNTU 6.10, german version.
Additional remarks:
The installer (synaptic? gdebi?) installs BOINC 5.4.11, but as can be clearly
seen from the BOINC download-page this version is created for Windows!
The recommanded version for Unix-systems ist 5.4.9.
