mike disante, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development

I tried turning off Compiz, but that didn't help. This is very erratic
for me, the only pattern I can see is that if I leave the computer alone
for a minute or so, it will definitely flicker and go dimmer when I hit
a key or move the mouse, then maybe flicker again and regain it's usual
brightness.
This affects me too on an EeePC 1001P, running Ubuntu 10.10.
I notice that the screen changes brightness slightly after a flicker.

No change for me. Still flickering. @steven: I suppose you mean the
kernel update (2.6.35-27), or did you get something I didn't?

My laptop was fine when running Fedora 13, but since installing Ubuntu
10.10, the screen flickers intermittently, only for a fraction of a
second at irregular intervals, on average every 5-10 seconds, gets very
annoying after a while.
lspci output =
00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690
Same problem as above on fresh install of 10.10 32-bit. Whole screen
flicker approx. every 8 seconds, regardless of application status, even
on the login screen. Monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 763MB.
lspci:
00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 IGP2 (rev c1)
00:00.1 RAM memory: nVidia C
Actually, doing some further testing, i figured it only happens with
Chromium maximized. I'm using Chromium with custom borders, that might
have something to do with it. It looks like i've mistaken this bug for
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=19683
** Bug watch added: code.googl
I am experiencing flicker whenever some transparency is added or removed
on my monitors. For example when i unhide my dock or terminal
application. If i keep Tilda (with compiz transparency applied) visible,
no flicker what-so-ever happens. I have had the exact same behavior with
xserver-xorg-video
i also have this problem, and from my reading, many others do too. it
seems that it is affecting users with ATI video adapters. again, 10.04
works fine, but a fresh install of 10.10 is crippled by a screen flicker
every few seconds. this is 32bit 10.10 on celeron 1.2gig with agp
Radeon X1300
ls
This bug affects me as well. I am running an AMD 64 bit processor with a
ATI Radeon 4670 card. If anyone needs any info from me just let me know.

I also have this problem. I could get around it by running a previous
kernel from the grub list, but since updating today to the latest kernel
I can't do this any more because it refuses to boot up the previous
kernel (now 6 down the list).
It's very depressing that this is taking so long to fix.
Very many people have this problem (so do I). Ubuntu 10.04 was fine, but
10.10 flashes the screen approx. every 10 seconds. See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1595944 for examples of others
having the problem.
