Is this bug still a problem for you? If yes will you please check if the bug
still exist in development versions? Otherwise you can set the bug status to
invalid to close your bug.

More information on this, for my system.
THe problem seems to be the onboard audio. I disabled the audio chipset
in the BIOS and the freezes went away. No clue if it's something silly
with the hardware or the kernel, but since I'm guessing Windows works
fine on the mobo, at the very least there'

The above mentioned system pause is really a system *hang* for my laptop.
Nothing happens, I have to hard power down. I have a Compaq Presario V3029AU
model. Its specs are as follows:
AMD Turion™ 64 Processor TL-50
2GB Transcend RAM

I had something similar, where the computer would consistently hang for a
second or two when the frequency was lowered. My fix was just to manually set
the 'performance_governor' to 'performance' or 'powersave'. Some old notes:

The last time I tried to install ubuntu from the livecd I've been waiting 1
minute, but nothing happened...
So I did a restart and booted into windows again.
I will do further tests about the problem.
Maybe I have to turn off advanced bios options like C1E, Hyperpath3 etc.
It could maybe be
It hangs permanently for you? The hangs I get only last a few seconds,
then the system picks up right where it left off like nothing happened.

I have exactly the same problem.
Now that the livecd (since 10-11-06, I think) properly detects my harddrives
(p-ata and s-ata!) ubuntu just stops after a while. It doesn't complete the
installation. Ubuntu just hangs before the system is completely installed. :(
