More information on this, for my system. THe problem seems to be the onboard audio. I disabled the audio chipset in the BIOS and the freezes went away. No clue if it's something silly with the hardware or the kernel, but since I'm guessing Windows works fine on the mobo, at the very least there's a missing workaround in the kernel. I have the latest firmware and such.
