I would characterise the behaviour of the mouse as stick. Once the
'mouse-down' is detected, the 'mouse up' is delayed causing a lot of
problems with hovering over icons, scrollbar sticking, highlight
misbehavior.
The new driver seems peppier, but has many similar problems as the
former version (.
I notice that when I click on an application on the toolbar, the icon
changes as expected to a spinning wheel. Prior to this update I was not
able to see this action.
The UI seems better; I will continue to test.

Not quite,
1. I don't notice the scrollbar problem
2. I notice the highlight problem.
3. I notice the 'hand icon' appearing with unwanted following-mouse icon
representing the clicked control.
For 3, I include a recording.

Sorry, that is 96.43.18.
Seems like the UI is more responsive; I will do more testing. It appears that
the problem had to do with duration of the mouse down after a single click.
Unfortunatelly, because I was banging hard and repeatedly on my mouse button,
it broke. This is a Dell Inspiron 8200,
Today 9/21/2010 I applied updates offered by ubuntu, among them a new
version of the driver 96.96.43.18 (up from .17). I will be testing to
see if this version improves matters.

I have created an additional user, shutdown, and rebooted the machine.

Here is a recording of the 'scrollbar' problems. The scenario is:
I move the mouse to the inner scrollbar of Xchat:
1. Click on scrollbar button
2. Move the mouse to the Xchat text window - note that the scrollbar
incorrectly follows the mouse movement.
This is incorrect as the scrollbar shoul
