If you don't want to use the cdrom anymore, you should disable it in the
software-properties.
On dapper: System>Administration>Software Properties
On edgy: System>Administration>Software Sources
I don't think that there is a reasonable base on which we can guess if
the user really needs the cdrom

I definitely think it's a feature that the CD is in sources.list, as
Sarah says, but perhaps a bug that synaptic is excessively demanding
about it.
