Using the gksu "update-manager -c -d" command it complains saying that
it couldn't calculate the upgrade.

I can confirm this.
I think this is because aptitude wants to be clever and remove unneeded
dependencies. If you do a dist-upgrade, this might not work because
dependencies have probably changed quite a lot and aptitude can't deal
with it properly.
To resolve this problem i would just use apt-get

Hi at all!
I had the same problem...than I've tried the command "sudo aptitude
update && sudo aptitude dist-upgrade" and it fixes the python's
dependecies...

hrrm... after a successful (with several tries, retries -f install) apt-
get dist-upgrade, the directory is now empty.
Perhaps the logs should be kept around?

Can you please attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ to this
bugreport? They will provide the information I need to tell why the
dist-upgrader broke.
