thanks - I discovered the same "fix" - and the upgrade proceeded -
only to crash later. I think I lost the system completely! Oh well...

the same circumstances. I found that simply running "sudo mkdir /var/log
/dist-upgrade" solved the problem and I was able to upgrade.
