** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xorg
I have installed Lucid on E4310 and everything works fine. Now I'm
trying to connect dual FullHD Dell screens via a docking station's DVI
ports. First of all, if I boot the laptop while plugged into the dock,
it just freezes as outline
I have this bus with ubuntu 10.10 amd64 on my dell e5510. installing the
current intel-drm-kernel solves the issue only half the way. I can then
activate the external VGA-monitor without crashing my system but its
physical resolution is not recognized correctly (max of 768 vertical,
physical is 102
This bug is also present in Ubuntu 10.10.

I can add that the freeze is no longer present when using 2.6.35-22, but then
another issue comes up: Screen blinking/flickering. It is only the laptop
screen that flickers/blinks as the external monitor is not blinking/flickering.
flickering/blinks = Screen goes black for a very short period of
I am experiencing the same as bonne I believe. Connecting a screen makes
the system freeze. Booting with external monitor and the computer stops.
No blinking keyboard though.
Output of uname -a
laptop 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 19:31:57 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux
Machine: Dell E431
thanks you're right.
now my uname -a looks like
Linux X 2.6.35-020635-generic #020635 SMP Mon Aug 2 09:08:21 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux
and it's damn working. dual-screen OK
Cheers,

You receive
Ok. It seems that you haven't really installed the 2.6.35 kernel. To install
it, you should do the following:
- get the 2.6.35 kernel sources at http://kernel.org/ ,
- then follow the instructions given on

Hi, I did installed the 2.6.35 by uploading the package from the web then
running the installer but it doesn't fix the issue.
I should precise that I don't use a docking station but the VGA port straight
on the laptop.
How can I check that the new header is applied.
uname -a still given me Linux
As suggested by vitaly x, Installing the 2.6.35 solved my problem.

Looks like installing latest drm-intel kernel fixes this issue. So this
probably was fixed upstream.
Here's some steps to install that kernel:

Bonne, your problem seems to be different - blinking caps-lock indicates
a kernel panic.

I have a similar problem where the system will completely freeze when I plug a
second monitor in. No dock in use in this case.
As soon as I plug in a screen to the RGB plug the system freezes, screen goes
blank and the caps lock light starts to flash.
I recall testing this on a live CD before in
