I have a similar problem where the system will completely freeze when I plug a second monitor in. No dock in use in this case. As soon as I plug in a screen to the RGB plug the system freezes, screen goes blank and the caps lock light starts to flash. I recall testing this on a live CD before installation and it worked, but I think the live CD I used for that test was 9.04. I currently have 10.04 installed.
