I guess the best is to attach your file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' there you
can find the graphic driver under Section "Device".

No, I don't. Apparently my laptop is using the Intel Corporation Mobile

@zanlus
Do you have an Intel 855 graphic chip set? If so your problem has been already
reported Bug #108056 and should be fixed in gutsy-proposed. Are you using the
-intel or the -i810 driver?
If you don't know which chipset you have please post the output of "lspci |
grep -i VGA".

Hey, I had the same problemand neither of the /etc/default/acpi-
support or lid.sh edits worked for me. However, after googling a bit
more I found this temporary solution.
"Hit Fn + F7 twice and you should be good to go."
Hope this helps

I have a Z60t and it is experiencing exactly this problem in Gutsy. I
had the problem fixed in Edgy, so I was disappointed when it reemerged
in Gutsy. I've attempted to alter lid.sh as suggested above. I've also
tried to altered /etc/default/acpi-support. Neither has worked.
Thanks
Problem seems to be fixed in Gutsy so I close this bug report.
Feel free to open it again if it still happens under Gutsy with the new Intel
driver.

Screen is garbled after lid close & open on Thinkpad
On my Thinkpad R52 with Intel i915 I've installed Gutsy Beta 1 (so now I am
using Gutsy) with 'intel' driver and this issue does not occur anymore. After
opening the lid, the screen almost instantly turns back on and is NOT garbled.
So the new driver works for me! Thanks!

I am still seeing this issue in gutsy tribe 5. The only work around I
have found is to switch tty's (crtl + atl f1 etc) and then come back to
the one i was using. This seems to fix the garbled screen.

I have the same problem with Thinkpad R52 with Intel i915 graphics.
The problem persists after full upgrade to Feisty, and the above solution with
vt switching seems NOT to help.
Any more ideas?

I'm white-listing for suspend in bug #57144. We'll come back to this

Adding the vt switches in lid.sh works here on a z60t, but I had to
'sudo chvt 12;' for it to work. otherwise I got 'Couldn't get a file

Following DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH in resume, I added
following lines in "lid.sh"

chvt 7;

It seems to have solved the problem in my z60t thinkpad running Kubuntu

Thanks and cheers.

Contrary to bug 40808 the resolution seems to be correct, at least the cursor

I played around a bit with "xset dpms force off" and "... on" but couldn't

After manually turning off the screen, using the touchpad or pressing a key
turns the screen on again without any display corruption.
So either those two commands don't correspond exactly to
No, it doesn't solve the problem. This isn't surprising since the
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH is only done when resuming from suspend. (At least that's
what grep told me...)
However suspend/resume works fine with and without this option. It's only the
lid that's problematic.

Yeah, this is the reason why it's not white-listed yet :)
Can you try uncommenting:
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=true
in:
/etc/default/acpi-support
and see if that solves the problem. If so, we need to white-list it
with that option.
