I removed "likewise-open" and "likewise-open-gui" from the preseed
configuration file. I instead had them installed during the first boot-
up of the system via a startup script. I also had it join the machine
to the domain. It all worked flawlessly using this method. So, I'm

It seems it is trying to start "lwsmd" during the installation. I don't
think that will work as the target system isn't yet running when
installing through debian-installer. Take a look at my "syslog" file.

Yeah...it didn't help anything. I even ran this installation on a

I'll add that package to my preseed file, and see if the installation
completes successfully. I'll report back in a little while.

James - just for info:
I followed the steps for bug 543963 (uninstall the likewise-open packages,
purge them and reinstall the updated ones).
This had no visible improvement until I rebooted - at which point, i got a

James, Gotcha. That sounds like lwregd is not responding in time. I'm
not that familiar with specific implementation details of preseeded
installs but from what I remember, there is nothing that should be
different that the normal install process. Is there anything specific

No. I'm seeing the exact error described in this bug report. I was
just letting you know that I'm seeing it during a fresh, albeit custom,
installation of lucid. The installation process bombs because the next
package, likewise-open-gui, fails to install because likewise-open
doesn't complete it
James, Is your report a duplicate of LP BUG #543730 ?

Update:
Restarted Lucid, got a different error, indicating that Netlogond couldn't be
started.
Checked, and there was a likewise-open package for netlogon that hadn't been
installed.
Installed that, and domainjoin-gui now works.
Problem solved from my perspective, even if I'm not entirely sure
