Killing udisks seemed to help. I notice that this problem is tied to udevd for
the Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S drive.

Thanks for the feedback.
I tried doing what you asked but it did not go away. Besides that
command stays in the foreground and does not return control back to me
unless I terminate it with Ctrl+C. Even if I put it into the background
top still shows udisks-daemon as being the no 1 process always.
They should not do anything unless GNOME is actually talking through
them (e. g. palimpsest, the "disk utility in the menu; or you plug in an
USB drive). Can you please do
sudo /usr/lib/udisks/udisks-daemon --replace
it should settle after some 2 seconds. Doesn't it for you? Do you get
any perm
