This problem was not solved for me in ubuntu 10.04. But everything
worked just fine in ubuntu 9.04!

I have the same problem, but it is not consistent.
I just installed a second dvd-drive and have now this:
- first dvd-drive : dvd-rom sata samsung
- second dvd-drive : dvd-writer ide philips
Discs in the second dvd-drive are not mounted.
