I have the same problem, but it is not consistent.
I just installed a second dvd-drive and have now this:
- first dvd-drive : dvd-rom sata samsung
- second dvd-drive : dvd-writer ide philips

Discs in the second dvd-drive are not mounted.
But after changing the disc in the first dvd-drive, and after running "sudo
lshw", a disc in the second dvd-drive was mounted.
I could also burn a disc, without affecting the movie running from the first
dvd-drive.

After a restart, it returned to the initial situation and a disc in the
second dvd-drive was not mounted.
