I am one of the two people (Michael) that maintain the Ubuntu side of the tings on CRAN. I would be willing to help maintain R in main, I just don't know what the procedures are. The build scripts exist and are maintained to coincide with R releases and we usually have a new version up within a w

To be honest, I'm very hesitant with this, as long as we don't have a dedicated Ubuntu maintainer. R is a huge project and needs corresponding attention. I know that Dirk does an excellent job with R maintenance in Debian, but due to our different release cycles maintenance needs to be coordinated
