Hmm... I guess there's no room for discuss this. I'm looking forward and
think we will see how things will went in Lucids development process.
It's Ok that Gimp will not be included on the CD, but I really hope it
stays in Main-repos and that there will be a wiser decision than taking

I cannot understand how anyone can try to use F-Spot for Image-
Manipulation? F-Spot isn't meant for that, it is a tool to have an
overview about your Image-collections. And as said above, it lacks some
basically Functions like making an arrow or draw a line.
F-Spot is no alternative.

F-Spot is not a Pixel-Manipulating-Software, it's a Photo-Collector and
Photo-Improver. Lucid wanna be without a Application for painting, not
even a simple one.
A week ago I was on a journey with my Netbook. Here I have installed
Karmic Remix and never noticed that Gimp isn't on board. Than had t
I think there is some communication mismatch.
As far as I understand, Gimp will not be "removed" from Ubuntu, it will
just not be included in a default installation and not included on the
LiveCDs. Anybody with internet access can install it like any other
package that is not immediately included
Very sad news that Gimp will be removed.

@ shane fagan:
Very valid reasons yes, but F-Spot isn't valid enough to touch up
pictures. There is no possibilities for include (delete) pixels like
lines, text, boxes etc. F-Spot is not a paint-program. If Gimp has to go
out, it should be changed by another, but more simple, one. Otherwise

Thank you for taking the time to make ubuntu better.
The gimp is a photoshop replacement we are removing it for very valid reasons.
Most people only use editing software to touch up pictures and that can be done
in F-Spot. I am marking this bug as invalid. We talked for a long time about

Absolutely agree, something like MS-Paint should be included in Ubuntu.

I do agree the bug report and scholli. It should not be a hole after a
Gimp delocation. GnuPaint doesn't looks like the perfectly alternetive
for Gimp. But if it's not Gimp has to stay.

Absolutely agree. If Gimp goes out we will miss a paint-program in the
complete package. Nathive looks like a good alternative, but it's still
"alpha". GNU Paint is maybe at moment the best alternative...
unfortunately the look isn't polish enough. If we can't find a
alternative for Gimp - Gimp has
