I'm sorry but I can't test it anymore because my university switched to a
different VPN infrastructure.
I can't test it with my old setup.

changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed
I also have this problem. I also got a error message in
/var/log/daemon.log like this from Florians log file:

No, it does not cause the misbehavior of the applet.
Same here with a pptp vpn. Connection gets activated, but status is not changed
in the applet and there is no way to disconnect.
Is there a workaround to at least disconnect manually from the vpn ?

I can confirm this, 32-bit version Kubuntu 9.10.
The gui says: 'connecting' (actually 'inschakelen', as I'm using the Dutch
version), but when the vpn is actually active, it still syas that and does not
allow one to stop the vpnc.
