Works on maverick with recompiled kernel. Requires to enable only one module in
kernel config. Line below does all the magic
CONFIG_DVB_USB_EC168=m
Plugged in tuner started vlc and worked perfectly.
Firmware file should be added to linux-firmware-nonfree package.

I think a packaging bug/request for the firmware should be separate.
The kernel option to enable the kernel specific parts and driver is
simply a .config oversight on the Ubuntu Kernel maintainers behalf. This
driver works well and means users with the card are having to maintain
out of tree v4l-d
I am updating this for review by the team, however, I am declining the
Maverick specific nomination for now and leaving this open against the
actively developed Ubuntu kernel (which happens to be Maverick at this
time). Will re-open the nomination should a fix be narrowed down which
we can confirm
Note, the fact the OSS portion drivers from the dvb-v4l project are now
mainline and should be turned on in the .config for the maverick kernel
is seperate to the firmware packaging.

You received th
the ec100 and ec168 modules were merged into the 2.6.34 kernel.
Maverick kernel build options for the dvb-v4l subsystem need to be
updated to include the ec100 and related modules to be compiled.
current testing kernel in maverick :
2.6.35-17-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 20 01:22:04 UTC 2010 x
this process on Karmic (9.10) creates the DVB device in /dev/ and not it
/dev/dvb/
this can be resolved by using what is described in the following thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1278275
there is a typo in the udev rule.
it should be:
KERNEL=="dvb*", PROGRAM="/etc/udev/scripts
