Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It

Same problem here. Never had this problem with 9.04, but it started with
the first 9.10 beta and is still present with 9.10 final. I get a pop
before every track played and before every audio notification. Audio
works fine otherwise. I haven't found any way to fix this.

Even stranger, I just applied all the latest updates, made some changes
to the compiz settings and rebooted my PC and the popping has returned.
Ill see if it fixes itself again after a day or two.

Strange, I have not downloaded any updates since the day I installed
9.10 RC and have not changed any settings. But sound is now working
properly.
I did install a number of packages from the ubuntu/medibuntu repos but
nothing that affected sound (eclipse, vim, meld, skype, etc.).

I would just like to add that the popping was observed even when the
sound was muted. No popping was noticed when watching some videos. So
either I just did not notice it or the popping only occurs when idle.
The later would make sense if the soundcard is being toggled by the
power manager.
