My system was already updated when reported the bug, and while I've done
an "apt-get update ; apt-get dist-upgrade" since, I haven't seen
anything cups/udev/etc. related come in.

Please do a full system update. We have uploaded another update of the
CUPS package with further fixes on the USB printing support. See also
bug #420015.
