Looks like this patch is now in Karmic since we rebased with the
upstream stable tree. Marking this Fix Released.

- DVI works through Grub, then goes dark when KMS kicks in

Confirming.
Issue appeared with KMS introduction and temporary gone until 2.6.31-6
(including).
Later versions (2.6.31-7 till 2.6.31-10) required nomodeset or i915.modeset=0
to boot normally.
In my case, I suspect system never passed initrd stage since there is no
response from network and keybo
