linux-backports-modules-karmic package also fixes the problem for me.

I am having the same issues.
I'm using a PCI adapter which uses the RT2860 chip (lsmod shows that the
rt2860sta module is being loaded). Just like Nicolas, it takes forever to
initially request things but once it has, it delivers them at my usual speed
(we pay for 8Mbit).
