Careful, Steven - /this/ bug is not a dupe of bug 131133. /Your/ bug is
related to 131133, yes.
Rationale: this bug attempts too wide a description of integrated audio
codecs. The original reporter has a Realtek HDA codec. You have a
Sigmatel HDA codec. Utterly different.

Looks like the problem with the external input not working
is/will be fixed upstream:

Especially comment and patch added on: 01-25-07 14:29
So I guess alsa 1.0.14 will resolve this issue.

I downloaded and unpacked the ALSA driver 1.0.13rc1:
ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.13rc1.tar.bz2
then compiled and installed it:

sudo make install
and after reboot I have sound in Edgy Eft!

I'm testing the edgy distribution with alsa-driver-1.0.12rc1 and with
the ALC883 it also fails.
At alsa web-site the changelog for 1.0.12rc2 says that they support the
ALC883 finally with the snd_hda_intel driver.
Guess this is a posible correction.
